Castles and Culture Holiday in Ireland

Soak up some Medieval Heritage & Culture with a 5 Night Self Catering Break

Carlingford is a magical village, full of character and is one of the best preserved medieval villages in Ireland.   Observe many of the 12th Century buildings that are still standing in the Village. With its history and narrow Medieval streets, lanes that lead to the harbour, majestic Slieve Foye mountain and the famous mountains of Mourne across the lough all combine to make Carlingford unique in Ireland.  Today the inherent natural beauty can equally be appreciated on land or sea.

King John's Castle, built in the 12th century.

The Tholsel, one of the last surviving gates into the town.

The Mint.

Taaffe's Castle

The Dominican Friary

Legends: An Tain Bó Cuailnge the national epic of Ireland is centralised on the Cooley Peninsula. Here Cuchulainn, Queen Maebh and the renowned Brown Bull of Cooley met their fate. Their route can be followed across Ireland to the Cooley Mountains. This national marked way is known as The Táin Trail.

Wander through the cobbled streets and visit the quaint wee shops.  With award wining restaurants and beautiful scenery - what's stopping you!
