Hill Walking:
The famous Tain Way - a national waymarked walking route covers a 40km circuit of the Cooley mountains on forest tracks, mountain paths and country roads. The trail includes a selection of walks, visiting the Windy Gap and Barnavave. Maps available from the Tourist Office. |

Golf:
Set on the shores of Carlingford Lough is Greenore Golf Club. This is a splendid 18-hole championship parkland course that the visiting golfer will find a delight to play. South of Dundalk, there is a championship layout at Blackrock known as Dundalk Golf Club. There is also a number of inexpensive 'pay and play' courses in the Dundalk region, including Ballymascanlon, Killin Park and Carnbeg. Moving further south towards the town of Ardee, you will find the superb layout of Ardee Golf Club visiting golfers welcome. Further down the N2 you will find Townley Hall Golf Club. This 9-hole golf course has only been open for a short number of years and is proving very popular with all golfers.
Travelling east towards the villages of Termonfeckin and Baltray, you will find two gems. Seapoint, designed by Des Smith & Co. is fast becoming one of the top links in Ireland and is a great test of golf. Fishing:
Sea angling is available along the Louth coastline from Carlingford Lough to Clogherhead and Baltray. The fishing stations are Carlingford, Greenore, Ballagan, Templetown, Glyes Quay, Blackrock, Annagassan, Dunany and Port Oriel.
This area offers shore, rock and boat fishing and there are numerous species to be found including tope, for which Carlingford Lough holds the Irish record at 661/2 lbs. Course angling is also catered for on part of the Boyne Canal at Drogheda and at Stephenstown Pond, Knockbridge, Dundalk. Historic Walk:
Meander the narrow streets of Medieval Carlingford while an expert guide recounts it’s long and colourful history from Viking to modern times. The guided tour is an easy walk to numerous Normans ruins including King John’s Castle (1210), the 15th century Mint and the Dominican Friary (1305).
